21 Ways To Get Excited About— & Renew Your Life

As a recent widow, I find myself somewhere between what I've known for the past 30 years, and embracing a new and exciting life.

Of course there are wrong ways to add excitement into our lives, but there are some right ways — when they add value to your life.

So, how do we get excited about life and renew our lives?

Here are some tips:

Change how you interpret things.

Life happens. Events occur. Today was sunny, and tomorrow they're expecting snow. One day you receive a promotion. The next, you get fired. Blah, blah, blah —it's called life, and all this will continue until your last breath.

What people need to understand is there are many ways to interpret a situation. However, our limited thinking sees a situation as a benefit, or as a problem—and we attach our emotions accordingly.

One way to redirect your interpretation is by knowing that "every situation —as well as everyone you encounter is actually for your benefit."

As you go through life and start seeing everything that happens is beneficial to your personal development, you will begin to feel empowered, self-assured and excited because you know it is leading you towards your destiny.

To make this practical, interpret the following:
  • You get into a collision.
  • Your boss reprimands you.
  • You had a mediocre workout at the gym.
  • or, if you're like me, your spouse recently died!
Here are some possible interpretations:

You are still alive. This may be a wake-up call to pay attention and not take time for granted—especially when it comes to loved ones. (self-reflection)

Even if by boss fires me I know that I am a valuable asset, a person of integrity and no one can reduce me to feeling low about myself. (self-assured)
At least I went to the gym. There is no such thing as a bad workout (self-care),

It is time to prioritize what my needs are and set aside the 'wants'. It's time to figure out what my power is, and if there needs to be a move made to heighten my full potential. This is an opportunity to do new things that were not possible in the past.

As your perception changes, your emotions will follow—leaving you feeling more empowered— able to see the benefit of every challenge that comes your way.

Gratitude

Now is the Time to Be Thankful:

Read the following quote:

“A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you're not enough without one, you'll never be enough with one.”— Irving 'Irv' Blitzer

This above quote from the movie Cool Runnings speaks volumes because it addresses our level with satisfaction within ourselves— when things aren't perfect.

One of the best things a person can do is find it in themselves to be thankful within the journey, regardless of the (temporary) results.

Your human attitude, effort and pride ought to go into your actions—and when you put forth your best, that should be reward enough!

Many people refuse happiness until they get or achieve specific things for themselves. The truth is if you’re not happy or thankful without them, you will never be happy or thankful with them.

Again, many people want a 'special someone in their lives—and refuse to be happy until they've found them. What they're really doing is inviting someone else into their own misery — and expecting them to ‘lift you up’. That is unfair to them.
If you do not have a healthy love for yourself, no amount of love from others will make a difference. You have to find it in yourself to love and care for yourself as you deeply want to be cared of by another.

Feed your mind good things.

Everything you put in front of your mind is as mental food. I say this because it produces a result in your spirit. It either lifts you up or brings you down; When it is entertaining— people do not perceive that. You should instantly know what is beneficial for your viewing enjoyment by how it leaves you feeling—not just moments after, but even up to a few days after. If you fall into anxiety or depression— then chances are you need to turn away from it.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to journal your emotions— especially after specific events. The more you monitor them, you gain power over them.

I also encourage you to employ gratitude. Genuine gratitude releases chemicals from the brain that will produce uplifting emotions. The more you are grateful you are the more you reduce the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in the brain. This also regulates the hypothalamic area of the brain which allows for deeper sleep and better sleep quality!

I am blessed to have such a beautiful home especially because it is situated in a small rocky mountain town and beside the creek.

I feel excited to have a home gym in my garage because I get to work-out anytime I want.

I am so excited about a new genre of music I just started listening to —it is so uplifting.

These are just four examples; but I encourage you to have several of them - especially one for each thing you have and each thing you do, and as you do, continually focus on the uplifting feeling you are left with.

Have a Mantra

Creating a mantra is a fantastic tool to implement a new belief into your life.

Take the mantra from the movie Cool Runnings; it goes like this:

"Greetings from Jamica!"

"🎼Jamica, we have a bobsled team—nuff people say you knew they can't believe — Jamica, we have a bobsled team—nuff people say you knew they can't believe,

— We have the one Derice and the one Junior — Yul Brenner and the man Sanka—the fastest of the fastest of Jamica sprinters— respect to the man Irv Blitzer —
Feel the rhythm, Feel the rhyme — Get on up its BOBSLED Time — Cool Runnings🎼!"

These wonderful guys didn't just say it, they sung it!

Gift yourself by identifying your strengths —and build on them in body and in song (heart).

Workout every day.
A workout is a miracle drug because it releases endorphins—this is an all-natural medicine!

Even if you have a lot of problems in your life, after a grueling workout, they all seem to disappear. In addition, you also will feel empowered to take on challenges more effectively.

Physical strength is such an important factor for your life, because that strength will flow into your mental and emotional life. By taking care of yourself physically, your aura becomes vibrant.

Have a set waking time.
You cannot get excited about life while staying hidden under the covers.

I know a lot of folks do not get enough sleep. By having a set waking time, you invite structure and along with that—preparedness.

Treat each day as a blessing—a gift; as you go along your day, you are unwrapping that gift.

What beauty will you see? (The sight and fragrance of a rose)

What challenges will you face? (Getting pricked by the thorn)

What progress will you have in pursuit of your dreams? (The knowledge that your body self-heals — and along with that you are able to conquer other challenges.)

Getting excited about life begins with jumping out of bed and starting your day happily.

Smile!

Humans have the tendency to mirror the environment in which we live.

If someone is smiling at you, there will be a desire to smile back.

Back in August (2023) I was at Walmart. When I go to Walmart, I generally am very direct about getting to get what I need, then vacating immediately.
I don't necessarily like crowded stores. On this particular day, a man—must have been in his 80's looked me with such a lovely smile on his face. He went out of his way to give it to me. Being curt—and in a hurry, I scurried by him and left not realizing what took place until the next day; I felt bad after it sunk in!

His smile is burnt on my brain. It had a lasting affect that will never leave me. I felt as though he was able to read me during this moment and it was important for him to share something special with me. Of course, I did not smile back, but now when I go out into public, I am more aware that those around me may need me to share my smile with them.

Your smile is packed with the ability to change someone's life for the better because that is what his did to me. (Think about that!)

Appreciate the journey.

You may recall my reference above to the movie Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings actually means — "peace be the journey." Life is filled with seemingly mundane events, but that perception can be changed as you allow yourself to see everyday life differently.

Think about your first love, first promotion or your first child: the biggest change in life often comes from the smallest of actions. It is those small actions that matter the most because they lead you to something great!

Take responsibility.

People that complain and blame give away their power— because every time they complain or blame, they avoid responsibility. When people avoid responsibility, they lose their ability to change their lives for the better.

Remember in point 1. where we discussed changing your perspective on things? Many folks fail to take responsibility because they are still viewing life as unfair. When you change your perspective, excitement will come because you are changing for the better and enlarging your future.

Eat, drink and be merry!

Enjoy each morning coffee, enjoy that occasional dessert, enjoy that post-workout smoothie, enjoy that Sunday roast with the family — enjoy, enjoy enjoy!

Not only should you enjoy it, but you should also give thanks to the Good Lord for it.

Thank the person who prepared it. Thank the person who went to work to earn the money to buy it. Thank God for His Hand of Blessing for that job and the talented cook you married. Thank God for the nutrients present in the food that will support your health and make you stronger. This is merriment.

Say yes.

Say yes to anything that will move you out of your comfort zone.

Say yes to a new challenge —such as taking an art class, playing an instrument, taking up photography, meeting new people. An excited person is open to new opportunities. Some might turn out great, then some things may not, at least you are developing yourself and gaining valuable experience.

Be a winner.
To be a winner one generally will fight against weak opponents until they are able to go against stronger contenders. Now, we do not necessarily fight 'others', we are fighting (for) ourselves.

One of the ways I fight (for) myself is in the gym. My goal is to be more apt, physically prepared, mentally stable and so-forth. Same with developing a new skill; For example, I recently did a home renovation project where the outcome wasn't altogether good. I needed to make an adjustment for it to come our favorable; it did, but not without first making the adjustment.

In order to be a winner, you will have to make adjustments. When we win at life, we attract more winning into our life, then we become stronger, more confident and secure.

Make alone time.

You. Not your friends. Not your family but YOU.

Use this time to build on you.

One of the things I do in my private time is write. I find by writing I can block out the world—collect my thoughts and grow in knowledge. This has a lasting affect that impacts my life in a refreshing way. The added bonus is being able to share what I've learned with others and seeing the impact it produces in them. It brings me joy!

Good Vibrations!

Raise your vibrations - where do you think the punch-line "good vibrations' came from? Essential oils are best for this because they raise them by the hundreds. Eating non-refrigerated produce will raise them— as will a walk-in nature—but only by the tens. Of you need a quick raise, I suggest rose essential oil. Your natural health store often carries it already cut so you can use it straight out of the bottle.
This will calm and still your mind and release negative emotions (amongst the other enormous health benefits - but that's another blog). As you raise your vibrations, your mental and emotional state balances—meaning you won't suffer from mood swings, and you won't have to deal with feelings of anxiety or depression.

Surround yourself with beauty.

When you notice beauty around you, it is reflecting the beauty that is within you.

Take time to make your home look clean and amazing. Cleanliness is beautiful, clean bedding is beautiful, art on the wall is beautiful, a new paint color— plants and whatever sparks you with joy—do it!

Seek beauty from the moment you begin your day by making yourself presentable. Put-on beautiful attire. Let your speech be beautiful—especially toward yourself and when you talk to others.

Take notice of everything beautiful that affects you—especially from the kindness of others. This is part of changing your perspective and seeing things in a different light.

Get rid of the dead-weight.
People that complain, blame and have a victim mentality are not going anywhere in life. Furthermore, as long as you have attachments to such people, you 'pick-up' on their spirit and become one of them. There is nothing worse than having some killjoy drag you down to their low-level. Studies show that those we surround ourselves with affect our lives in a huge way. If you want to live a positive life you can't achieve that when all you deal with is negative people.

Get ready for change.

Are you at rock bottom and everything you put your hands to seems to fall apart? Awesome! Now get ready because changes are taking place that will have a positive effect on your life.

One of Gary Vaynerchuk's quotes says, "The struggle is my foundation". It is wise to embrace this foundation and know that everything you do will set you onward and upward toward your destiny.

Be happy for others.

When your friends are winning, so are you. Why do I say this? Because it is a part of your new environment and we have already learned that we mirror each-other.

So when you see others getting a promotion, cheer them on. When they fall, pick them up and support them.

You need to bless in others what you want blessed in yourself.

If you get angry and hate others for their success, you are mirroring that you are against success.

Celebrate life!

Each day is filled with opportunities; memories to be made, adventures to go on, and goals to achieve. Every choice you make is producing a result that will affect your future.

Be excited for this time. Be excited for NOW! You are not given any other time than the here and now to do what you are destined to do.

Be a chooser!

We have a phone that can do anything; we have transportation to get us anywhere, we have information at our fingertips, we have opportunities to take advantage of...the choice is yours as to what you want to do with what life supplies you with.

Think about this: you can create a business and work anywhere just off your laptop. There are multiple ways to make money and friends... you can learn a new language, a new skill or learn something new because of technology. You have so many choices. Life is good.

You have to know what you want, then you have to know how to ask for it and get it.

It's imperative that you have a vision that inspires you to become the best version of yourself.

When I was young, I used to read those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. Each adventure took you along a different path. Some you ran whereas others 'ran' you. It was all about overcoming the potential obstacles life threw at you.

An obstacle is just a fixed system designed to help you to reach your goals. Those who don't understand this lack self-awareness. What they fail to realize is each obstacle they overcome contributes to their success. This is why overcoming challenges (winning) is exciting; it is actually leading you toward your destiny.

Learn from others.

This strategy is beyond powerful for raising your excitement levels.

Every great person has struggled profusely—failed numerous times and persevered despite everyone doubting them.

By learning about them, you, in a sense, are 'hanging' around them, and since the mind does not differentiate between reality and the imagination, you will begin to mirror their (success) reality.

So feed your mind with the stories and videos of the great men and women of our past and let their success be your inspiration

Control your thoughts.

Focus. Doubt your doubts. Lay off the 'what-ifs'. Get busy doing and let your performance to the talking.

Those who overthink never accomplish a thing, and those who accomplish things spend little time talking about them. This eliminates a lot of anxiety you may carry.

Ultimately, it's up to you to create your own environment that leads to pleasant emotions and stirs excitement, joy and passion. As you do you will naturally arise and take ownership of what goes on in your mind.

So, now you know some of the most powerful strategies to add excitement and value into your life.

God Bless!
