Self-Care Tips

The mind and body function as one.

It’s hard to have a clear head, or experience happiness and peace, when you're stressed. Many feel as though they need 'someone else' to care for them; but the truth is you need to take care of yourself above all else! If you don't, you will fall into the trap that 'no one cares about you' so, it's up to you to prevent those false-feelings.

Here are some self-care tips to help you stress less:

Self-Care Tips to Boost Physical Health:

  • Drink a full glass of water, first thing in the a.m to kick start your digestion.
  • Drink more water, period.
  • Get your seven to eight hours, every night - even if your sleep is broken by periods of being awake.
  • Workout
  • Make sure to consume fresh produce daily.

Self-Care Tips to Raise Self-Awareness:

  • Self-awareness is key to self-care because you are able to identify your strengths as well as your weaknesses & see how you influence others.
  • Pick up the Bible! The Word of God is filled with wisdom to help navigate your way through difficult times.
  • Get creative; Writing, painting, singing or dancing are great ways to reinforce positive feelings.
  • Read self-help books; take a business or another course that adds value to your life.

Try Therapy Sessions:

Therapy is a great addition to any routine. Scheduling sessions with a therapist, whether it’s on a weekly or biweekly basis is a great way to make sure you set aside time that’s 100% for yourself. Therapy doesn't have to be only for mental health/awareness, it can also be for deep tissue massage!

Practice daily self-reflection:

  • How would I describe this day in 10 words?
  • What are 5 things that made me smile today?
  • What am I grateful for in this moment?
  • What do I hope to achieve tomorrow?

Start your day by posting something meaningful and motivational:

  • What are you doing that is working?
  • What barriers are in place that are hindering your success?
  • What can you do to change those barriers?
  • What are you thankful for?
  • What do you need to change in order to be more thankful?

Self-Care Tips to Improve Your Social Life:

  • When it comes to making friends as an adult, it's important to be positive and proactive. If you go into the process thinking that you are never going to make friends, you probably won't. And if you leave your social life up to chance, you probably won't see results either.
  • Make a List of Potential Friends. Identify why you would want them as friends and then send out an invite based on what you already know about them (going to a favorite restaurant or shopping).
  • Accept invitations. Remember, they see something likable in you so consider this when they do.
  • Focus on Being Open. Don't overthink the process of making friends. Instead of worrying about being rejected, or dwelling on the fact that you might not be fun enough, channel your inner child. Be open to meeting new people and having new experiences.
  • Take An Interest In Them. If they ask to do something unique like hiking or roller-skating, go!  Never reject trying new things.
  • Join a Gym or Sports Team. It seems kind of cliché to suggest meeting people at the gym. But people do it all the time. Consider joining a gym or an adult recreational league. I myself want to join a Taekwondo class!

Tips for Self-Love:

  • Always cook for yourself
  • Read motivational or influential books
  • Dress for the respect you expect from others.*
  • Keep yourself well-groomed at all times - even if you're just bumming around the house
  • Treat every moment as though it is an event!
  • Talk to yourself and give yourself wise counsel. Give yourself advise as though you were the most important person in the world.
  • Make every moment matter - even in those mundane moments.

Self-Care Tips to Be More Creative:

  • Practice art or anything you are interested in even if it's watching Youtube  tutorials.
  • Redecorate your home.
  • Take an art class.
  • Take dance lessons.
  • Take up photography.

Self-Care Tips for Relaxation:

Relaxation doesn’t have to mean resting. Expand your horizons or shake up your current routine to detox and recharge.

  • Compile a music playlist that helps you de-stress.
  • Book a massage therapy session.
  • Take a road trip!
  • Lay out in the sun.
  • Sip some wine!
  • Have a power nap as often as possible.
  • Take time with your pet. Petting your fur-baby is known for it's blood-pressure reducing benefits.
  • Get away from media each day to clear your mind.

Self-Care Tips to Ease Work Tension:

  • Schedule an appointment with yourself on your calendar.
  • Do something valuable on your lunch break (if it's a bit long).
  • Don't be harsh on yourself! Treat yourself with that same compassion and understanding.
  • Learn to say "no".
  • Do not agree to anything your gut tells you to disagree with!

Self-Care Tips for Fun!

  • Try a new dish.
  • Get a make-over.
  • Buy a new outfit.
  • Soak in an essential-oil bath.
  • Have a movie-marathon.
  • Dance around your house naked.
  • Enjoy some of your favorite carbs!
  • Put yourself first - especially if you are alone.
Take care!
