Stop Overthinking & Start Problem Solving
First, you need to identify the real problem. This is not always obvious because many issues have deep roots that have not been dealt with. A weed will keep resurfacing until it is pulled from the root.
Then, you'll want to examine all possible solutions and how effective they will be towards resolving your issue.
Next, you need to implement these solutions. This step also includes determining what resources are needed to put the solution into action – such as legal, personnel, labor or technology.
Applying these 3 steps will help you to stop over-thinking.
The following will help you develop problem solving skills.
Be Creative: All problems are nothing but wake-up calls for creativity. Creativity allows you to reach within and develop new strengths while learning new things about yourself.
Do Your Research: Research is formalized curiosity. As you gather information from multiple sources you will easily determine the best solution that will solve your issue.
Communication: Good communication involves both verbal and written skills – as well as the ability to listen (comprehend) what is right. Good communication is often the way most issues or conflicts are solved – however, we face many situations where people will not communicate with us. This is where you will have to rely on what is true and just.
Get Help: Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. When people work together, multiple solutions are applied. When you unite and utilize the strengths of others, you achieve a common goal efficiently.
Decision Making: You cannot make progress without making decisions.. This is the difference between over-thinking and problem solving.
Good decision-makers focus on solving the problem rather than wasting time over-thinking or analyzing the information in front of them. All decision making involves risk so you must be willing to manage them as they are presented to you.
Adaptability: Adaptability is a person's ability to adjust to changes in their environment. Adaptability skills involve applying different ideas, learning new techniques, taking on challenges and responding to new surroundings. The more adaptable you become, the more you utilize your core strengths.
Emotional intelligence/Resilience: Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage emotions in any situation. Resiliency is the ability to cope with and bounce back quickly from difficult situations. This again is what separates the problem solvers from the over-thinkers.
Evaluate: Evaluation offers insights into your situation and revels where you need to make adjustments so you get a favorable outcome. Problem solvers know this step may have to be repeated, and have different possible solutions applied each time
